He broke new ground in strategy consulting, with respect to the form (i.e. boutique-mode) and the methods -- engendering buy-in and momentum for a change in the strategic direction; guiding implementation of business and organisational transformation; and, instituting new competencies and culture.
His research contributions have been - '3-phase' model of strategy formation; 'root-branch' framework of corporate strategy; typology of viable and effective configurations for Indian companies; 'transformation and momentum model' of strategic change, and the construct 'strategic configuration'. He has taught strategic management in the masters', executive and doctoral programmes at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and other leading institutions, and policy analysis and design at the LBS National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie.

His articles and papers have been carried in top-end publications and has authored -- "Competing with the Best: Strategy, Organization Design and the Configuring of a Successful Corporation" [Penguin: India-2008, Global-2009, 2nd Edition-2024].
His two executive stints in a special cadre of Tatas, involved the turnaround of an old unit and the setting-up of corporate planning function in a major group company ACC Ltd. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from IIT Kanpur and a doctorate in strategic management from IIM Ahmedabad.
